The Alaskan Malamute is the oldest of the Arctic Sled Dogs. It is in the Working Group and was recognized by the AKC in 1935. It is #55 on the Most Popular List of Dog Breeds. Malamutes need a firm but just hand in training and you need to start early. They are diggers so give them a place to do so, unless of course you want that special garden worked on! In 2010 they were named the Official Dog of Alaska.
